Veneer

At light’s first break, I wake to hear him breathe.

The muted light casts an amber color,

Upon the red stained cheeks of my lover.

Embraced by arms, between which I lie sheathed.

Golden curls tussled into silky sheets,

and features chiseled by divine sculptor,

powerful man, rendered powerless, for,

I, alone, witness his somnolent peace.

Two emerald eyes glint in dawn’s luster,

Now greet me with love one cannot define.

Bathed in his gaze, I think of the future.

With a change of face and shift of posture,

Could a splendid notion have crossed his mind?

He speaks: “Should I order you an Uber?”
